My artwork is inspired by the beauty and emotion found in nature. Living in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by lush vegetation, I spend as much time outdoors as possible, absorbing the colors and forms of the natural world. The oil paint and watercolor palettes I use reflect both the vibrant and subtle hues of this environment, which feels deeply connected to my life.
I choose my subjects by seeking fresh perspectives each day, drawn to the ways light and shape reveal new details. I am especially drawn to scenes that balance symmetry with natural randomness—whether in the intricate branches woven with flowers and leaves or the striking contrast between vertical marsh grasses and their horizontal reflections on the water.
My artistic goal is to create work that brings happiness to viewers. While I recognize and am also drawn to the emotional depth and darker themes found in some art, I most often respond to the joy and calm and beauty that nature inspires. I feel a kinship with artists such as Monet, Hopper, and Wyeth, whose work also expresses a strong sense of mood and place.
During much of my career as a graphic designer and illustrator, I had limited opportunities to work with oil paints, but my experience with watercolor and ink has remained a strong influence on my artistic approach. Since retiring from design, I have embraced oil painting, exploring techniques that often echo the fluidity and layering characteristic of watercolor. This blend of past experience and new exploration gives my work a unique character, reflective of both my history and my evolving creative journey.
